Alkalise Your Diet with Green Smoothies
Adding a Green Smoothie to our diet each day helps us to eat lightly with a focus on fresh fruits and green vegetables high in iron and antioxidants. This way our body receives fast easily digestible nutrition. Fruits and vegetables are alkaline and help to keep your body PH in balance. Most people don’t have enough vegetables in their diet. So adding some spinach, kale, broccoli or herbs such as parsley or coriander or cilantro into your smoothie is a great way to boost your nutrition. And it’s a great way to start the day. Easy to digest and quickly assimilated by the body.
Iron – Anemia and your Green Smoothie
Many people and in particular woman, due to our monthly menstruation cycle are iron deficient and thus suffer from a level of iron deficient anemia. Iron deficient anemia is a condition in which you lack enough healthy red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen to your body’s tissues. Having iron deficient anemia can make you feel tired, have cold hands and feet, be pale, have brittle nails, headaches and a feeling of weakness. Drinking daily green smoothies can help in keeping healthy iron levels. Adding a big handful of fresh spinach leaves plus a kiwi fruit for added vitamin C will increase iron absorption. Adding foods rich in vitamin C can triple our absorption of iron. If you’re pregnant better to use kiwi fruit, paw paw, papaya or goji berries for that vitamin C. Oranges may adversely affect your pregnancy PH.

Fresh Produce From Natures Garden Is Best
Nature had given us an abundance of delicious fruits and vegetables that if eaten regularly will keep our bodies strong and healthy. As mentioned Spinach Leaves are Great for iron. Fresh and Organic or spray-free from local markets is best wherever possible. I’m sharing what I put in my green smoothie today, scroll down for the recipe.
Roughage and Regular Bowel Movements
Juicing is good, but green smoothie’s are better. Nothing is wasted. The whole fruit or vegetable is used in a green smoothie. This means that we are getting fibre which will keep the bowel swept clean. A clean bowel with regular bowel movements daily or twice daily is a sign of health.
Vary it With In Season Fruits
Every day my green smoothie varies depending on what is in the fridge or the garden and what is in season. Avocado and bananas give a lovely smooth texture to the smoothie, keeping it wholesome. Choose local fruits and vegetables in season as they are the freshest.
Make It Green
It is so easy to grow greens in your garden or in a tub if you’re in a unit. Spinach leaves, Chinese greens, cilantro (coriander), parsley, celery, mint, broccoli, lettuce and cabbage, gotu-kola to name a few.
Gotu Kola on the Go
Gotu kola has been used as a medicinal herb for thousands of years in India, China, and Indonesia. It was used to heal wounds, improve mental clarity, and treat skin conditions. It grows like a weed in my garden which is GREAT. Gotu kola is a mild adaptogen, is mildly antibacterial, anti-viral, anti-inflammatory, anti-ulcerogenic, anxiolytic, a cerebral tonic, a circulatory stimulant, a diuretic, nervine and vulnerary.
A legendary saying in reference to Gotu Kola is: ‘2 leaves a day keeps the doctor away‘
Pick a handful of greens, roughly chop and toss into the blender – go green.

The citrus oils of Orange, Tangerine, Citrus Fresh (YL blend) and Lemon are particularly high. Slique Essence is a blend e Oils from Young Living which supports weight loss. Oils can help cleanse the lymph and gut. Check out my essential oils site here

An absolute MUST is a Tablespoon for each person of Organic Raw CoConut Oil. So many health benefits here too.

My recipe is below but really, make up your own recipe – it is so easy. Just use a good high powered blender (square shape is good) or a nutri-bullet.
You can buy very expensive ones that really work extra well, but a square glass blender or nutri-bullet does just fine. Bon Appetite!

YUMO
Blended with Love….Soraya Saraswati….
My thoughts are often with you Soraya. To read that it is 3 years since you lost Prem shows me how time marches on. Aruna, Kumar and Jaya must be young men with their own lives and passions by now.
I DO read your blogs and articles, but cannot c ome to your classes etc….the curse of geography! Yoga, pilates, walking and a healthy diet keep me in reasonable shape…and of course, I’m no longer teaching full time! Yahoo.
Best wishes, maree
Hello Maree,
Lovely to hear from you. Yes Aruna and Kumar are working and wonderful young men. Jaya is still at home, he just turned 12, he is a delight.
I visited Stanley briefly with Terry on our last music and workshop tour. I stopped at Stanley Primary School, I looked at the old Oak tree where Prem had carved his name but alas time had grown bark over it. I had some tears and said good bye. It was a bittersweet time in the Vic Mountains. The Joy of the boys, the birth of Jaya and our adventures there live with me. Your wonderful gift with children was much appreciated. thank you.
