Soraya's Conversation with Petrea King
I hope you enjoy my conversation today is with Petrea King, author, speaker and cancer surviver-thriver. She’s also a founding member and the CEO of the Quest for Life Foundation stablished in Australia 1989. The Quest for Life Foundation provides practical skills and strategies for people to create peace and resilience in their lives.
Loss and Cancer Diagnosis
Here we discuss how traumatic experiences can become a catalyst for personal growth, spiritual awakening and deeper wisdom. How grief and loss can be opportunity for healing and peace. Like myself, Petrea King lost her only brother to suicide. This tragedy was followed by an acute cancer diagnosis in 1983. Petrea was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. In this conversation Petrea shares her physical and spiritual journey to physical, mental and spiritual recovery. It was this journey that precipitated a deep inner shift leading her to establish Quest For Life Foundation.
What Quest For Life Offers
The Quest for Life Foundation provides practical skills and strategies for people to create peace and resilience in their lives. Up until 1995 the Foundation was based in Sydney where it hosted hundreds of support and meditation groups for people living with cancer, grief, AIDS, depression, anxiety and other traumas as well as teaching programs. In 1995, Petrea and the work of Quest for Life moved to Bundanoon in the beautiful Southern Highlands of NSW. The organisation continues to grow and support hundreds of people. They are supporting people after the bush fires as well as those with cancer, depression, anxiety, suicide survivors and those living with suicidal ideation.
Petrea has worked tirelessly with Quest over the years as an author, inspirational keynote speaker, teacher and facilitator. She is also qualified as a naturopath, herbalist, clinical hypnotherapist, yoga and meditation teacher. Thousands of people journey to the Centre to find a safe haven in which to begin or continue their healing journey. The Centre also provides an opportunity to intensively train facilitators, therapists, counsellors, nurses, doctors and other professionals from around Australia.
Petrea has written 9 best-selling books: Quest for Life ~ A handbook for people with life-threatening illness, Spirited Women ~ Journeys with Breast Cancer, Sometimes Hearts Have to Break ~ 25 inspirational stories of healing and peace, Your Life Matters ~ The Power of Living Now; 3 children’s books, You, Me & the Rainbow, Rainbow Kids and The Rainbow Garden; and a recipe book, Food for Life.
