Quinoa a Complete Protein Food
Quinoa is a complete protein food. One of the few plant foods that contains all our 9 Essential Amino Acids. Essential amino acids are proteins the body cannot produce. So this is a great food for a plant based gluten free diet. Here is one of my favourite morning breakfast recipes. I hope you enjoy it.
Recipe: Quinoa Porridge (for 1 person)
1/4 cup Quinoa
Spices: 2 cloves, 1 star anise, 1/8 tsp cinnamon
1 organic apple or pear slices thinly
1 cup filtered water
Handful of frozen wild blueberries.
Sunflower seeds or Hemp seeds to top
Yoghurt to top (coconut or dairy)
Add all to a small pot, pop sliced apples on top (except blueberries)
…making sure quinoa is in the water at the bottom.
Bring to the boil and simmer for 10-15 mins, turn off.
Then add frozen berries on top to warm.
Keep the lid on till quinoa is soft and puffed.
Add yoghurt of choice
I often add some sunflower seeds or hemp seeds on top to boost protein.
