Peace is Ever Present
When we understand that peace is ever-present, we cease chasing pleasure in the world of objects. Objects come and go in the form of acquisitions, relationships, food, sex, achievements, and financial gain. All are these impermanent.
Turning Inward
When awareness turns inward, seeking that which is permanent — that which does not come and go — we begin to look beyond the objective world of name and form, and even beyond the subtle objects of thought and emotion. For these too arise and pass, often leaving us weathered on the rocky shore of life.
Attachment to Thinking
Attachment to the movements of mind is strong. Attachment to emotion ignited by thought is also powerful. We cannot win by battling thought and emotion. Instead, loose interest. Yes, become uninterested. Refuse to climb aboard the thought carriages and circle endlessly on the mind’s train tracks. Looping around and around with the same thought patterns, many detrimental. Step off, into the neutral space on the platform of the seer, and allow thought to fall quietly into the background.
The Sense of ‘I’ beyond Story
Search for the sense of “I” without attachment to thought or emotion — not the small limited story of me, but the simple felt sense of being. The Self prior to thought and emotion. That which is open, free, expansive, and ever-peaceful. That which is able to observe thought, emotion, sensation and not be swayed by it.
Joy is Being Aligned with our True Nature
Pleasure born of sense experience is wonderful but it does not last so drop expectations of permanent happiness from external experience.
Joy arises when we live in harmony with the deeper currents of life, aligned with our true nature — which knows no limits. Then joy is spontaneous.
