Shaking Off Trauma with TRE

Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises (or TRE®) is a simple yet innovative series of exercises that assist the body in releasing deep muscular patterns of stress, tension and trauma. Activation of the  body’s neurogenic tremoring response down regulates the stress response of the sympathetic nervous system and restores parasympathetic calm. TRE can improve our mental, emotional and physical health. As a TRE facilitator I teach and incorporate this TRE into my Awakening Hearts Mentorships, specific Shake it Off with TRE and Yoga Nidra courses and in private sessions here and online. scroll down to read a healing story from one participant.

We’ve All Experienced trauma

We’ve all experienced trauma to one level or another at some stage in our lives. Our relationships, our level of health and our ability to enjoy all aspects of life are affected by past unreleased trauma. Learning TRE can provide you with a tool that will help you unwind the body. In my Shake it Off course we learn more about our nervous system and how the release of bodily held trauma and tension can frees up blocked energy allowing us to live fully. A life changing practice TRE focuses somatically with the body, NOT with the ego.

The Subconscious Patterns

Through regular practice old belief patterns that have been buried in the subconscious mind, driving unloving behaviour surface and are seen through. TRE can support us in rediscovering relaxation, comfort and safety within our own body again. True embodiment allows us to become fully present expressing our authentic self confidently. Earlier this year I was diagnosed with a serious medical condition that turned my world upside down, inside out, and everything in-between. I felt strapped into a roller coaster that wouldn’t stop.
I enrolled in Soraya’s Shake it off TRE course as I was struggling with the diagnosis – I found my “window of normality” had shrunk considerably, and I was bouncing non-stop from flight, to fright, to freeze – with no reprieve. I was not sleeping, I was angry, sad, confused, irrational and many, many other emotions all at once. It was exhausting. And I was overwhelming afraid.
I knew that not only the current trauma of the medical diagnosis, but prior traumas/experiences and unresolved feelings, thoughts, hurts and grievances were weighing on me heavily. TRE provided an experience where my body could move and release these traumas – without question or story. Where my body, mind and self could just release and “be”. Gently, yet dynamically with her knowing, support and guidance.
I have also been blessed to do some private work with Soraya to delve deeper and heal further – allowing me to neutralise the fears I was experiencing and to return to my centre, breathe, and just let my life be. I don’t get it right all of the time, but it is far better than the roller coaster that I was experiencing.
I have also learnt valuable techniques and strategies for breath work and toning and calming the vagas nerve – which have proved invaluable when undergoing scans and procedures in a clinical medical world.
And ending every session with beautiful mindfulness and yoga nidra is an absolute blessing and gift – I feel very grateful to Soraya for offering this work to bring peace to my heart, mind and body. …. Tiff

Every Body Is Unique

Trauma can show up in so many ways. Each unique. Yet the body’s nervous system always responds with some form of contraction, and TRE is wonderful for literally shaking it off. In the Shake it off course I explain our physiology in greater detail. It is often a relief for people attending that no story needed. Many have told and retold their story which can simply embed it more deeply exacerbating suffering. In a TRE session we stay in present time, feeling, trusting allowing and loving our miraculous body as it unwinds and frees itself from tension and trauma. And the results are seen as your life begins to change. Our choices become more self-loving. Relationships can change, becoming more wholesome and nourishing. We become open to the gifts of the universe in a whole new way.

From Personal Experience

I’ve experienced the benefits of TRE myself for over 10 years. It was one of the modalities that supported me to heal from the deeply held grief of losing my son to suicide. Now I feel privileged to facilitate and support others to experience relieve from past pain, hurt, grief and trauma that’s locked in their body.
